As you all know, I am a HUGE @4everbrandy fan/supporter. I’ve watched every tv show, movie, video, listened to every song, collab, etc. that Brandy Rayana Norwood has ever done. I love her voice and can appreciate her for the artist/woman/mother/daughter/friend that she is. I never had the chance to attend a Brandy concert when I was young, so last weekend I traveled to the East coast to indulge in a Brandy filled weekend.
I flew into BWI on Saturday Nov. 10th, got my rental car, and GPS’d my way to my hotel. I checked in and walked to the nearest restaurant to enjoy lunch before getting ready for the show. My intentions were to make it to the venue, Ram’s Head live, at least an hour before doors opened. The doors opened at 8pm and guess what time I got there??? 8:01pm. The line was longer than I expected. The kids showed up and OUT for Brandy. I hadn’t even gotten my ticket from Will Call yet, so I just knew that I was going to be standing in the back. That is really a sad thought for someone who is 5’2”. Well they broke the line up to go into the venue 2 different ways. I was lucky to choose the line that moved the fastest as I made my way as close to the stage as possible. I hung out with my friends Kenya and Teena and tweeted away.
While tweeting, I received a DM from @SilentBx. Silent works with Brandy as a photographer and he has a dope blog called Trueexclusives.com. His tweet read: Holla @ me if you see me… so I can try & get you backstage to meet Bran. My heart stopped. I was like OMG. I made it my job to make sure that I spotted Silent. He was standing on stage as I tweeted him my location. My tall friend Kenya waved my cellphone in the air and he spotted us. He came over to tell us where to meet him at after the show.
The opening act for Brandy sucked so i’ll get to the SHOW. Brandy comes out to a song that all of her fans should know, What about us. My first thoughts were oh shit she’s about to take us back, and that she did. Brandy combined a medley of the songs that made her popular such as I wanna be down, Sitting up in my room, The Boy is Mine (where the audience sang Monica’s part), with new songs from her latest cd Two Eleven. She performed Without you, Scared of Beautiful (my fave), Wildest Dreams, and Put it down. A Brandy show is not complete without her showing love for her beloved idol Whitney Houston. Brandy sang a mix-up of Dance with somebody, I’m your baby tonight, and How will I know. As the performance wore down I just knew I had to make it to the location where Silent directed me to, lawd it was packed and tight, but I squeezed my way through all of those folks. I stood patiently by the stairs and exit sign. Silent came out as promised and wisked me and my friends backstage.
As we were standing backstage I hear a voice say, “where is the Texas girl at?” So i’m standing there looking like a shy school girl as Brandy walks up to me. Now mind ya’ll this is my 2nd time meeting her. She hugs me and we say our hellos. I then show her my wallpaper on my phone and she states that she remembers me. I’m like oh wow that’s dope. Anyways Brandy wanted to know what made me travel allll the way there just to see her. So I had to let her know that I’m a real star girl and I needed those shows in my life. I did let her know that I was happy that she sang Scared of Beautiful. That was the highlight of the show to me. We talked for a brief minute, took our photos, but she had to go. I was in AWE and just on cloud 9 for the rest of the night. THANKSSSS Silent and Bran.
Fast forward to the next day Saturday Nov 11th. I was in DC for the 2nd Brandy show. My homegirl Ayonna and I were in line 1 1/2 hrs before the show and made it to the front row for her show. Me, her biggest fan, in the front row = Epic night. Brandy did the same songs that she did in Baltimore, but I got to really feel the songs up close and personal. After her show a radio personality from DC and SilentBx presented Brandy with a cake to celebrate her 18th anniversary of being in the industry.
This was one of the best weekends in my life EVER. I thank Brandy for being so humble and loving. I thank her parents Sonja and Willie Norwood Sr. for raising her to be the woman that she is today. And lastly I thank Ryan Press for loving him some Brandy, I could feel the love all through those venues. My girl is happy and i’m loving it.
